Jean-Michel Othoniel is a French artist whose sculptures in sulphur drew the attention of the art establishment in Kassel in 1992. These works, poetically inclined and boldly advocating a universe of ultimate freedom, typify his interest in metamorphosis and materials with reversible properties, such as his nowpreferred medium of glass. Othoniel’s reputation has grown signifi cantly since the early 90s. He has exhibited his work in contrasting contexts and locations, ranging from a subway station and prestigious galleries in Paris to major museums in New York, Seoul and Tokyo.

The French artist created 2 designs for Swatch, including the Swatch the Black(SFZ116) which cleverly combined elegance and fashion and the limited edition, Swatch Over The Rainbow (SFZ115S) with a blue glass print dial. This model is placed in a pearl-shaped glass packaging made by the craftmen that had been working with Othoniel.
